The Lorax
This is the second film I got a chance to work on while at Illumination studios. Adapting the work of Dr. Seuss was such an exciting challenge!

This is the first test image I made. My most important goal was to be as respectful of the source material as possible. People love Dr. Seuss for what it is, I felt like this should be an extrapolation of the work in 3D, not a reinterpretation. The contorted design shapes could be really interesting as a volume, and we could even but folds and wrinkles in the architecture!
One thing that I found could be very interesting, was to change the local color of objects as they face different orientations. Dr. Seuss seemed to use this color change to suggest light and shadow, but we ended up changing the actual color, and this ended up revealing design details in a nice way.
